Jellis eyeing positive off-season in preparation of pre-season

2 May 2024

Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis is keen to hit the ground running when pre-season rolls around as he looks to kick on in a Saddlers shirt.

The 23-year-old moved to the Poundland Bescot Stadium in January, arriving from Tamworth but had to be patient to make his debut after recovering from injury.

Jellis made just his second appearance on the final day of the season and was a bright spark in the disappointing 5-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon.

The midfielder is now keen to put himself in a good position during the off season to come back firing in pre-season, build on his recent appearances and show the fans what he can do.

“I definitely needed the half hour that I got (on Saturday),” Jellis said.

“Playing well when you’re losing four or five one when you come on, it’s hard but for me it was a positive performance and one I’ll be looking to carry on in the off season, build on it and come into pre-season flying and hit the ground running.

“I want to be an attacking forward player. I want to bring life and energy to the fans and create an atmosphere.

“Hopefully they’re behind me and hopefully I can come in pre-season, build on what I’ve already shown them, add some more goals and assists and we can push on and finish as high in the table as possible.”

Jellis has settled in well since his arrival from Tamworth and that was helped by the welcome he received from Saddlers supporters.

He is now determined to help deliver success for the fans next season and he has praised the Saddlers faithful for their backing.

“They’ve been really welcoming to me and they have been really behind the team since I’ve been here,” he commented.

“The atmosphere that they create is second to none. I’m disappointed we couldn’t finish on a more positive note for them but stick with us because we’re going to build on what we’ve already done this season and hopefully we can bring more success next season.”
